Jaguar Repair: firing order, jagur, firing order

Question
what is the firing order on a 82 xj6 jagur on the cap were does number 1 start on it

Answer
Hi Matt,
Where # 1 is in the cap depends on where it was put when the last person who was into the engine placed it. It is easy to locate by first removing #1 plug and rotate the engine until you feel compression then look at the timing marks on the front pulley and set the timing mark on or close to TDC. Then remove the cap and look at which peg the rotor is pointed at. That is #1. Then just follow the firing order of all inline six cylinder engines 1,5,3,6,2,4.
This works on all engines on earth as long as you know the firing order of that engine.

Many mechanics don't bother setting the position of #1 in the cap where the factory set it and after installing the gear the drives the oil pump and distributor, they just put the #1 wire in the cap where #1 points to.
