Jaguar Repair: 85 XJ6 passenger side windows, thermal breakers, jumper wire

Question
QUESTION: My '85 XJ6 passenger side windows will not operate. The driver's side windows and sunroof are fine. The rear seat window button won't operate the rear window either (tried it just in case). Just my luck, the windows are rolled down. What do you think?

ANSWER: Hi Walter,
I found that most of the time when a window quits working, it was the rocker switch that failed and even when we were out of switches, we could take the switch apart and sand the contacts and clean them and get them working again.
To get the switch out remove the arm rest lid and inner plastic tray to gain access to the switch plugs. Unplug the connecter for the right window and take a test light and check to see that you have power on the red w/slate tracer wire with the key on. Then take a jumper wire and plug it into the socket that has the red w/slate wire and take a second jumper wire and plug it into the socket that has the Red w/green tracer wire on it. Now ground that wire and touch the (Hot) wire (Red w/slate) to the socket that has the Green w/Red tracer wire. If the window just clicks reverse the two Green w/red with the Red w/green. One way is up and the other is down.

If you are able to operate the window as I indicated above then the switch needs attending to. With a small screwdriver you can spread the ears on the rocker to get it to come apart and take the small pieces out noting how it is assembled and clean the contacts with something sharp and reassemble.

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick reply, Howard. As I said, all 3 switches on the passenger side are inoperable, and when I checked the easiest to reach, there is no power. I'm wondering if the window lift relay may be the culprit.

Answer
The left window would not operate if the relay had failed check the red w/slate tracer wire with the key on for power. If no power check the two thermal breakers on the passengers fuse panel. Both are on the far right. Red w/slate in and out on both breakers. Check both as I don't remember which was right side.
