QuestionQUESTION: I can drive 20 miles or so and then it run bad mi is 8 mi per gal . let it cool off and it the same thing, I have tuned it up plugs ,wires. cap , rotor. computer says it is O2 sensor engine is running rich,I changed up and down stream co2 sensors and anew catiltic convertor. I changed map sensor and air temp sensor on the top of manifold I have asked many mechanics now they say change computer. What do you think? That 20 miles it runs great computer says 25 mi per gal then check engine light comes on and it drops to 8 mi per gal black smoke out tail pipe it has 183000 miles on it. I have never had any problems with this car nay help would be appreciated

ANSWER: and with all this info would u not think that the check engine light codes would help the most in this matter? visit a shop or an auto parts store and get the codes from the check engine light first.

I did have them check the codes from the beginning of the problem and I put in the parts that they said to install to fix problem The same code comes up co2 sensor lean mixture.. it is like if I drive a 1965 Mustang with a Manuel choke and then pull it out 20 miles down the road when she is heated up... boy she runs bad and starts to smoke out the tail pipe..thats what this jeep does.. it needs air.. or some how to push the choke in..I can push the choke in on the mustang and she runs good..but this jeep computer says the same thing..change the co2 sensors.. I have done
every thing I can think of but I dont know how to fix this..just think about it..OK

this is where u are wrong just because a code comes up for say an 02 sensor that does not always mean the 02 sensor is the issue It could be a wire prob or PCM or something else on that circuit causing the 02 sensor to give bad readings.
The same code comes up co2 sensor lean mixture" this one code has about 15 different things that can cause it or help cause it.
U dont have a choke on this car its all controlled by a computer.
