Jeep Repair: 1998 Cherokee hard starting, Hard starting christian customs jeep cherokee

Question
I have a 1998 Cherokee w/ a 4.0 liter that is hard to start only the first time you try. After that it will start right up. I've been reading some of the other problems and answers, but never did it mention how to repair it. Someone mentioned to me that there is a "solenoid" that controls this but if that was bad I would think it wouldn't run at all. Is there a check valve of some sort in the fuel system and if so where is that located. I don't see one up at the fuel rail on the engine. Help please!

Answer
This is the same problem that i am having right now with my 2000 jeep cherokee. If yours is anything like mine, i can jump in and all ready know that it is going to not start on the first try so i always try once really quick and then it always starts the second time. Well If this sounds anything like what you are seeing, this is what i did. I took the air intake off and sprayed carb cleaner all over and around the choke and got all of the black off of the inside and then clean the sensors inside the same area. And for some reason when i tryed starting it it fired right up on the first time. After some time it started acting up again a little bit so I did some more cleaning and plug changes.. now it really never does it.  I have 218,000 miles on my jeep, so i dont know how yours is but a little cleaning goes a long way.. So my advice to you is clean the intake, check your plugs, and consider maybe doing a fuel system flush. IF this doesnt help you at all the only other thing i could think of would be your fuel pump and injector. You can have a pressure check done and see if it is preforming as well as it needs to, Hope this helps
