Jeep Repair: How to replace a front bumper, jeep grand cherokee laredo, jeep grand cherokee

Question
1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.
I need to replace the front bumper and was looking for replacement bumpers on line, I was just wondering if there was a how to site which would give me an idea of what parts I may need to buy as well as how to replace the bumper.

I keep seeing bumpers, and then brackets. Just wondering what I should be looking for.

Answer
I would go to your local auto parts store and pick up a hayens manual for your jeep and look in there for help with step by step installation helps, It really depends on what happend to your bumper in the first place. If you are just upgrading the plastic shell because of minor cosmitic reasons then the shell is all that you are going to need, but if you go into a wreck or somthing then you are going to want to get a new cover, absorber, and maybe brakets and any trim pieces that may have been damaged. Best thing to do is start unbolting the bumper a little bit and really see what all has been damaged and go from there. Bumpers are very stright forward and not really that hard to work on. should take about 30min to get the bumper off and to a point that you can really see what needs to be done. Hope this helps!
