Jeep Repair: 89 Jeep no start, jeep cherokee, mechanical side

Question
i have an 1989 jeep cherokee 4x4.I have recently replaced the ignition switch and it ran great great.NOw when I turn the key on nothing no attempt to start and doesnt matter if i try any other gear (it is an automatic).I can run a wire from the battery to the starter and it will crank. Any suggestions as I dumb founded.

Answer
which side of the ignition switch did you replace?  If you just replaced the mechanical side you may want to try replacing the electrical side of the switch.  You could possibly have a bad neutral safty switch.  The only way to tell is to check all the wires at the ignition switch, with the key switching from run to start check to see if a wire lights up when in the crank position ONLY, if you dont replace the electrical switch.
