1998 cherokee sport with a P0705 and P0700 codes.
Is this serious? What do I need to do?

Sounds like you have a Transmission Range Sensor gone bad. When these codes appear together, the Transmission Range Sensor is usually bad.  It could also be the Transmission Control Module.  I would have it checked out by a shop, you never want to cause damage to your transmission!  Hope you could find this useful.
