Jeep Repair: 87 Jeep wont start, backyard mechanic, jeep wrangler

Question
I have a 87 Jeep Wrangler which sat while I was deployed. It ran a few times after I got back with a hard start. Now it will not start at all. When I turn the key it turns over and that is it. We have pumped the gas and the funny thing is it should have been flooded but there was no gas smell. I do not hear the pump kick in. Should I? Did a little backyard mechanic and sprayed carb cleaner in the carb, tried to start it. It started and stopped. To me it screams fuel pump do you agree?

Answer
I agree.  If you can get the jeep to run off of a can of carb cleaner then it's either out of gas, has bad gas or the fuel pump took a dump.  Wrangler's had a problem with sending units going bad too so before you do anything dump about 3-5 gallons in there and try it again.
