Jeep Repair: Ignition, spark plug wire, coil resistance

Question
I have a 99 Wrangler with a 4 cyl.  I just replaced the engine, and now I cannot get any spark from the coil.  I have checked the coil resistance primary and secondary and they meet specification.  I verified 12 volts on both pins going to the coil, and I replaced the pickup inside the distributor.  What else could the problem be?

Answer
The coil should only have 12 volts on one wire and the other should be ground.  If you've got 12 volts on both I would check for a pinched wire somewhere.

Also, if you've got 12 volts at the coil verify the other is ground.  Then see if you've got spark going to the distributor the same as you would if this were a spark plug wire (screw driver to ground method). If you've got no spark then you've probably got a bad coil.
