Actually, there was a wiring harness correction that came out a few years ago to help correct this condition.  The conditions were inoperative illumination, tach/speedo operation and false Airbag light coming on with no codes being present in the airbag module.  

The correction is simple but you will need to remove the cluster and solder in new connectors for the MIC (mechanical instrument cluster).  Also check the terminals of the MIC for some discoloration.  

The new wiring will not match up to the old wiring so it's important that you follow instructions laid out in the service bulletin in order to make sure you don't cross circuits up.  Having the battery disconnected is also VERY important as you will certainly let out the factory installed smoke should the wrong ones touch.  Don't ask me how I know.  I never make mistakes (cough cough).
