Jeep Repair: 99 XJ cracked manifold, jeep exhaust manifold, jeep grand cherokee

Question
Hey JeepMan,

This is not a question of performance, more of functionality than anything else. I've heard that older XJ's use a larger HO exhaust manifold. It would be easy enough to weld up the cracks on mine after taking it off. However, it would very simple to grab an older manifold from a junked xj. Have you ever heard of this being done? Did it work out well?

Thanks,
Mick Kaminsky

Answer
Hello Mick,

The good old cracked manifold, it seems like every Jeep has that problem. I can't recommend replacing the manifold with another used one, only because of the good possibility of it cracking a year later. Any manifold out of a '91 to '99 Cherokee will work with your Jeep. Also a manifold out of a '93 to '98 Grand Cherokee 4.0 will be the same part. My recommendation would be either of these two manifolds on ebay, one with a lifetime warranty and the other with a 5 year.

I have seen two guys put in used manifolds in their Jeeps, but neither lasted long. Hope this helps you. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with the Jeep! --Jeep4x4man
