Jeep Repair: The loud of noise from rear wheel, ring and pinion gears, axleshaft

Question
Dear sir,
At present,I use Jeep Cherokee 2.5 Litre petrol engine 4 X 4 Model (1996) ...
I would like to replace a new bearing of rear axleshaft but i can't remove an old bearing right now,...

I am not sure which rear axle you have but there are two different types and the way they attach to the housing. One is by the use of c-clips. The rear differential cover has to be removed to remove the clips, the axles then slip out...

Dear Mr.Brown

Thank you for your last answer.Today I've got another problem to ask you, about the rear axleshaft. Please advice me.

Firstly, I've already replaced the rear axleshaft roller bearing. I've heard a loud noise from both sides of the rear wheel( Before and after I 've replaced roller bearing ). So,I tried to examine by lifting up the rear of the car. Then I found somthing wrong in the axial movement. When I pushed and pulled, it made a loud of noise. So,how I can repair that?

I hope to hear from you soon.

Yours sincerly.

Answer
You are into something that the average home mechanic does not have the expertise or tools to fix.  The noise you hear could be carrier bearings, pinion bearing or the ring and pinion gears are not meshing as they should.  Have a qualifed axle mechanic take a look, what is wrong depends on when it makes the noise (power, coast or float).
