Land Rover Repair: key ignition wont turn

Question
QUESTION: Hello
I have a 2006 Range Rover HSE. I'm having an issue with my Key ignition. I put my key in the ignition and it wont turn. Steering wheel wont lock and radio works. If I pull fuse 18 out replaced it back in and the vehicle will start. I have also replaced my battery. This has not resolved my issue. This issue tends to to often! What do I do......

ANSWER: It sounds like you have a problem with the electronic drive authorization system.  That controls release of the lock, along with the mechanics of the key.  I don't know of any way to work on that system other than through the dealer-level diagnostic systems and access to the vehicle's coding data (kept by Land Rover)

Here in the USA that would mean you need a dealer or an independent shop that has both the proper tools and the NASTF registration to buy and install locks and theft related parts.  Non-registered garages can't buy those parts anymore, so if you choose a non-dealer person for this work you should make sure they can really do the job.

QUESTION: Thank you for your help. Do you have the Dealer level diagnostic system along with the vehicles data code? Is this something you are able to work on? If so could make an appointment with your garage? I look forward to hearing back from you.

Answer
Yes, we have all the necessary equipment to program or repair your car.  We are at 347 Page Boulevard in Springfield, and our phone number is 413-785-1665

If you tow the car here we will also need all the keys you possess as they are all re-programmed at once.  If we need to order keys or locks we will need the registered owner of the car to come here with ID and a registration for the car in order to sign the theft-related-parts order paperwork.
