Land Rover Repair: 98 Landrover Discovery, landrover discovery, obd ii

Question
Replaced engine, key programmed, starter, and battery. Truck will not start. Turn key and lights show in dash. What could be the problem? Thanks for any information you can provide.

Answer
If the engine control unit has been disconnected, and it's lost the sync with the security system, you will have to do what's called a "security relearn"  That is a 5 minute procedure with the factory T4 test system or an Autologic but it's not an OBD II or generic scan tool function.  You are going to need a shop with such a scan tool and the training to use it.

I would have said a dealer can do this but with the sale of LR to Ford and then Tata and the technician turnover you may have a hard time finding a shop.  I'd start with the dealers and look for independents who have the proper tools etc as well.

I know we get Rovers like yours from farther and farther away because there are not many such shops.
