Land Rover Repair: Replacement key and problems starting, land rover dealer, auto shops

Question
Hello,

I own a 2001 discovery II landrover. My key comes apart between the metal
and plastic parts and often is stuck in the ignition. Do I need to order both
parts of the key? If so, where can this be ordered for a good price? Also,
sometimes my car will not start. I found that if I pump the brakes it will start.
Can you tell me what it could possible be. I am getting different answers
from auto shops,
Thanks

Answer
The only source of cut keys is your Land Rover dealer.  The price should be the same nationwide though it never hurts to compare two dealers.  Yes, you need to order both parts.  The electronic part has to be programmed by a dealer or a shop with the T4 Autologic or IDS systems before the new key will start the vehicle.

The programming is a separate charge from buying the key parts, in most places.

I have no idea why pumping the brake would cause the car to start.
