Land Rover Repair: Jump start Land Rover, jumper cables, trickle charger

Question
Here's the scenario:
Land Rover Battery good - likely alternator bad (doesn't hold a charge).  Remote control for car doors dead (but we got that fixed and haven't tried again).

I am trying to jump start Rover, but the alarm goes off, then deactivates the starter and I can't jump start the car.  What are the steps to jump start the Rover and deactivate the alarm?  I have tried to hold the key to the left (or right whatever the manual said I did) and deactivate the alarm, but the battery is so dead that it won't even turn the light inside green.  I will apply the jump start cables, but the with energy the alarm goes off.

Any suggestions?
Jessica

Answer
I suggest you disconnect the battery from the vehicle and fully charge it using a trickle charger.  If no trickle charger is available you can use jumper cables and connect it to an idling vehicle for a few hours.  Having charged the battery, connect it to the Rover and put the key in the driver door turning from lock to unlock.  That should clear the alarm.  When you turn to unlock press unlock on the button.  Then do the same for lock.  That should reset the pushbutton locking.  At that point you should be able to start the car.

If that does not work (the alarm does not clear) you probably have a failed driver door latch switch or some other problem.

Best of luck with this
