QUESTION: how many qrts of trans fluid, yhanks Don

Answer
Don,
From this post you can see it depends.

Hmm, they told you 3 quarts, doesn't sound like the drained the torque converter which is yes, a few minutes more of mechanic time to rotate the flywheel to expose the plug and removing it and maybe 15-20 minutes to let it drain. Since we bought foreign cars, the capacity is in liters, but for arguments sake, say they are equal. A typical MB auto tranny takes just over 7 liters of tranny fluid (I believe 7.3 for the V6), when I had the tranny fluid changed in my kid's SLK, it took about 6 3/4 liter bottles (was there to watch and count) and he was done with it in about an hour, but of course he didn't stay and watch fluid drip for an hour, he did the rear end and engine oil at the same time. I can tell you, if it takes that mechanic 11 hours to do this, he is one card short of a full deck. Find another mechanic.

Also, this is not an area where you want to second guess MB and buy quarts of generic fluid. I would stick with MB fluid only in liter bottles. I know it's expensive, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Hope this helps
Rob
