Land Rover Repair: 2000 discovery series 2, discovery series, rovers north

Question
hello- thanks for taking the time to answer my question! i have a 2000 disco with a self leveling suspension. for the past week or so when i turn the truck off i do not hear the 'hiss' of the leveling suspension and sometimes while driving the ride is very rigid and it feels as though the rear suspension is not operating normally. this problem seems to occur at random, maybe every other time that i use the vehicle.

if the suspension is not functioning correctly, am i causing significant damage if i continue driving? and what might be the best options in terms of repairing the problem?

thanks! david

Answer
The problem with the air suspension is that you can't really do any service without the factory test system which talks to the control unit.  A second issue is the high cost of service parts.  For most people the best answer is to convert the rear suspension to coil springs, because that can be done with ordinary hand tools and it puts a permanent end to air suspension trouble.  You can buy kits from Atlantic British or Rovers North in the USA

Good luck!
