Land Rover Repair: 2004 disco 4.6ltr, minor fault, gas cap

Question
I read a post of a guy asking one of the same questions I'm going to and an added one. I too have an 04 disco and I had cooing system problems I have replaced the resevoir the pump belt and a line of the res. I noticed my engine light also comes on when I start it and I runs rough for a minute then once the vac runs for a minute it runs fine. the engine light only will flash if I try to drive it before vac shuts off. after that the light will stay on but not flash and the truck runs fine. Now a few times I have had to top up coolant and the light seems to go off how ever I feel it may not be the issue, I think it may be my gas cap. you see I think part of the gasket is missing, it has a small rubber ring on it with a groove in it and I think there used to be an additional rubber piece that sits in the groove and covers the whole inside of the cap. I think this is causing a lack of presure in the fuel system and causing it to run rough on start up. Does that make sense????

Second thing is that my DS heated seat seems to work 90% of the time but the fuse in it makes a ticking sound frequently like morris code lol.... my seat doesnt seem to get as hot as it used too.

Thanks for your time and Happy holidays

Answer
A blinking check engine light indicates a serious problem that will harm your vehicle if ignored.  It's not a gas cap issue.  I urge you to have the car checked and address what's wrong before it gets worse.

A gas cap leak is a minor fault, which produces a constant light.  The flashing light is reserved for the most serious issues

As to the seat . . . perhaps the element is going bad; no way to know without checking it
