Land Rover Repair: Engine failure, mass air meter, coolant temp

Question
Hey John: I own a gas ´97 Disco and I am having problems with the engine. In the morning the engine starts just fine, and you can drive around with no problems whatsoever. Suddenly from no where the engine just stops, and you can try start it again, ´till the battery dies but it just won´t start. A friend told me to change the amplifier module and pick up plate from the distributor, and after spending a few hundreds on the spares it did not work. Do you think there is a problem with the fuel pump. How can I test it ??
Thank You.

Answer
You need to have someone with you when it fails you one of you can jump out and pull a plug wire to check for spark while the other cranks the engine with the key.  Ignition failure is the most likely issue.  If the fuel pump were bad it would burn out and stay burnt out.  It would not flicker off and on.  I would start with the ignition then look over the fuel injection sensors in particular the mass air meter and coolant temp sensor

Good luck with it. Check my blog at http://robisonservice.blogspot.com and my website www.robisonservice.com for more Land Rover articles.
