Land Rover Repair: 03 Land Rover Discovery, land rover discovery, head gaskets

Question
I recently took my '03 Discovery into the local LR dealership for a routine oil change.  They mentioned my head gaskets and front cover gaskets are leaking coolant and the transfer case is leaking oil.  They quoted me ~$4,000 to fix both of these.  The cost of the repair was only part of my surprise.  The car has never overheated and has been serviced solely by the dealership in the past, following the LR service plan.  With only 71K miles on the Discovery, I wouldn't have expected to need to replace the head gaskets and make the other repairs.  I'm wondering if this service is typical of an '03 Discovery with only 71K miles and are there other reputable mechanics where I could get a 2nd opinion outside of the LR dealership?

Answer
Oil leaks are common, and repair costs can be high.  However, many people can live with some amount of leakage - and not every leak signals impending doom.  I would encourage you to seek out a reputable specialist but such people are rare.  I know we get cars at Robison Service from all over New England and the East for that reason.
