Land Rover Repair: key wont turn in ignition, heated seats, steering column

Question
I own a 2002 HSE range rover. Last year at the start of the winter i developed a problem were, if it was cold and i had been the using heated seats or heated windows i could not get the key to turn in the ignition after i had removed the key and attempted to restart the Range Rover. The only way to rectify the problem was to disconnect the battery, this made it possible to start the car.  The local dealer said it might be caused by a faulty battery losing power. I replaced the battery and the problem went away. This week the weather has been cold and the problem has returned, nobody seems to have heard of this problem any clues please.

Answer
You have a new style Range Rover, the one introduced in 2002, right?  If so, I would suggest that your problem is probably a failed electronic steering column.  The only way to test that theory would be to plug in a new column when the truck acts up, and see if that frees the ignition.  It's a common issue here in the states.  Sometimes you can read a drive authorization or EWS fault through the T4 or Autologic test system, too
