Land Rover Repair: can you advise on this please thanks, crankshaft position sensor, bad crankshaft position sensor

Question
My 2002 Petrol Freelander HSE has been having problems starting after having been driven for at least half an hour. It will restart normally if I attempt the restart within about 10 minutes. However, if after waiting longer than that, it will not start. The engine will crank over normally, but it acts like its not getting gas and/or spark. If I let it sit for about an hour, it will start normally again. Once the engine is running, it runs just fine. It does not hesitate, it has plenty of power, etc. Do you have any ideas as to what could be causing this problem, can you advise on what problem and how to repair it.
thanks

Answer
The only guess I can offer is that you may have a bad crankshaft position sensor.  That is a common failure that produces the no-start symptom as you describe.  Failing that, I'd connect a Land Rover test set to the vehicle and watch the data as it cranks.  That should give a positive answer.
