Land Rover Repair: Land Rover insrument panel lights, switch problem, gas cap

Question
No matter how many times I check and recheck my gas cap and lid, the engine light remains ignited and the message board shows that it is still loose.  Also, the hood is open message appears as well, infrequently but nonetheless.  How do I disengage the message or the faults to occur?

Answer
Obviously the engine light is signaling a problem other than the gas cap.  The next step for that would be to see what codes are stored, and do whatever tests are indicated to resolve what's acually wrong.

With respect to the hood . . that is either a latch or switch problem.

A good Land Rover tech should be able to addresss both
