Land Rover Repair: land rover freelander fuel pump td4, land rover freelander, wheel arch

Hi there i have just changed the fuel pump under the wheel arch on 2005 freelander because the old one stopped working i have put the new one in and it works but there is a loud buzzing coming from it now. Soon as you turn the ignition on. Does it need calibrating to the vehicle or will it be something else thanks

My first thought is that the pump is defective.  But some amount of noise is normal.  The pump is not regulated; it's either off or on.  So noise from inside means something wrong inside most of the time.  The one exception to that would be if the outlet side of the pump is clogged.  If the outlet is blocked the pump can be noisy for that reason.
