Land Rover Repair: engine will not rev, vacuum lines, autovalue

Question
I have a 2002 freelander 2.6 I just replaced the thermostat housing and water outlet elbow. After putting everything
Back together the engine will idle but when I push the accelerator it will not rev. I checked all vacuum lines and electrical
Connections and all look fine. I do have a check engine light but removing the battery cable does not clear it, any advice?

Answer
Hi William,

could you have a transmission or clutch problem?  Have the code(s) read and it should give you a clue as to where the fault lies.  In N.America, most large Autoparts shops will read the code for free.  It's a nice customer courtesy.  Advance Auto and AutoValue have done this for me.

Obviously, the code is constantly on so it has to be an important component that's having difficulty.

You may want to consider buying a OBDII reader from the local parts store.  They are reasonably priced and you can use it for other vehicles too.

Best of luck,
