Land Rover Repair: BRAKES, oxygen sensors, squeaky brakes

Question
QUESTION: Hey Jon thanks for helping out...

I have 4 brief  questions...

Do all discovery's leak oil? I have mine dripping a bit...

Why is it that I always seem to have a gasket that needs to be replaced? Is there anything I can do... Perhaps buy a better ofter market gasket set than the only the dealer provides? I drive the car like an old lady and i never off road.

How many oxygen sensors do I have?

Is there a trick to having the fuel pump last long?  I'm at 90k and am terrified of it going on me... Should I just change it for piece of mind?

Thanks,

MC

ANSWER: Land Rovers have a long tradition of leaking oil.  I am not aware of any "super aftermarket gaskets" that will cure the problem.

You have four oxygen sensors.

The fuel pump in a Rover should last as long as the pump in any other car; 100-150,000 miles as a rule.

QUESTION: Hey Jon,

I just changed the brakes on my disco 2... I changed the front and rear... I put EBC pads and discs... all the way around...

My brakes are squeeking like crazy. The last time I changed the brakes I put cheap after market pads and discs and they never squeeked...

Any reason why m new brakes are squeeking? How do I fix it?

Answer
The brakes squeak because you bought squeaky brakes.  If the pads and rotors are all new and make noise, that is the simple and hard truth.  You can buy anti squeal goo and try that, but if you fitted new genuine LR pads and rotors as a matched set they probably would not be noisy.  You can sometimes rough the pad surface with sand paper and get a temporary cure, too
