Land Rover Repair: Tail light doesnt work, assembly work, land rovers

Question
Hi, I have a 96 discovery. All the lights on my driver side assembly work except the tail light.  It lights when I depress the brake pedal but doesn't stay lit as a driving light. It works fine when I plug it into the harness on the other side so I know it's the wiring. What I'm trying to find out is if it's just a bad plug or do I need to check the wiring somewhere else. Is there a way to rewire it. I have a service manual but it makes no mention of wiring.

Answer
You probably have corrosion in the socket, or in the harness right back at the lamps, or you have bad or wrong bulbs. The problem is almost certainly in the 24 inches of wire at the back end.  In Land Rovers the electrical manual is separate from the shop manual.  But I doubt if it's needed in this case.
