Question
Land Rover Repair: engine knock on disco series 2 V8 revisited, low oil pressure, gudgeon pin
bearings
John ,the bore on my motor is 94.02mm-04mm and the piston which is a B grade piston according to whats stamped on the top? measures 93.97-98 mm.i followed the recommendation to measure 90 degrees from the gudgeon pin axis and 10 mm from bottom of skirt.converted to imperial it is 1.968 thou.  i plasigauged the main and big end bearings and they come up to approx 1.5 thou to 1.8 thou.should i measure the piston any where else??all the bearing caps i removed and checked showed no real wear at all just bright bearing metal .could low oil pressure cause the knock as previously described.i should have checked this before i took the engine apart.no warning lights flashing.oh well i will learn not to be so eager to pull things apart next time rob

Answer
Usually piston knock is caused by taper or shrinkage on the skirt.  You did not say if that was present. Check the skirts as compred to the crown and you may get an answer.  Also the cams move back and forth in some motors.  Your bearings look good; no noise source there
