Land Rover Repair: locked out of 2000 Disco II, superlock, battery problem

Question
Yesterday my wife went to a friend's house and locked her Disco II in the driveway.  When she came back out, the keyless remote wouldn't unlock the door, and unknown to us, something is wrong with the manual door lock and the key won't turn and unlock the door!  Everything has worked well up until then with no battery problem noted or anything.  It is now stuck at our friend's driveway with no way to get in.  A locksmith for AAA could not get it open, even after making a new key.  How can we get in?  And it's a holiday weekend to boot!

Answer
There are 2 possibilities for the key not working.  1)  It is stuck in superlock, for which you will need the remote to unlock the door.  I would suggest that you try to change the remote batteries.  2) It is very common for the spindle to the exterior door handle to break off, maing it inoperative.  This would require replacement of the exterior door handle.
