Land Rover Repair: Engine over heating, land rover discovery, water hoses

Question
John,my 2000 Land Rover Discovery 4.0 engine/petrol is over heating. I have replaced the 3-way thermostat and 2 water hoses. One hose witch connects to water/pump going to thermostat and one hose from thermostat to engine/port.These 2 water hoses blew-up like balloons and then burst.CAN YOU HELP ME? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Tom,

could have been a blockage that caused hoses to burst BUT I suspect you may have a headgasket problem.  That much pressure had to have come from somewhere.  Those hoses are tough and it would take quite a lot of pressure to have that happen.

Consider having the cylnders pressure tested along with the cooling system and radiator.

Headgasket failures are common with Disco Series II.
