Land Rover Repair: 95 3.9 tdi trainy shift problems, external electronics, split second

have 95 dico 1 have had many problems fixed most. 1 problem cant figure out. transmission showed no signs of problem when put in d split second feels like it will go then no go 3rd and 2nd same neutral put in 1st drives can put all the way to overdrive upshifts down shifts fine on own until complete stop. then all  gears act nuetrul. except 1st then manuely shifting all over again then works fine until complete stop again.

Whatever is happening is internal to the transmission.  There are no adjustements or external electronics on that model.  If it's full of fluid the next step would be to pull it for overhaul

Good luck - it's a lot of work to get out but repair is pretty straightforward for a transmission guy with ZF experience.
