Land Rover Repair: AC Drainage Plugged, drainage tube, drain tubes

Question
Hi John - I am pleased to say all is well with my 1996 Discovery thanks to your columns advice. I am stuck on this one. I must have a plugged AC system drain as cold water gets in the passenger side floor area near the door after running / during running the A/C. A/C works well. Can you describe what that drainage tube looks like to unplug it? Do you have a picture of it? I saw an old posting said to pull back the pass. side carpet to find it under the dash. I didnt see any thing that looked tube like. Am I blind? ? ? LOL! Please assist! - Chris Walsh.

Answer
Hi Chris,

lets hope its not a leak from a cracked bulkhead.  I've seen this on my '95.  As the AC sweats, it was blown back against the bulkhead and naturally leaked into the weld crack.

I thought the drain tubes are are under the transmission tunnel.  You'd have to go underneath the Disco to free up the clogged tubing.  Some have clipped the end of the rubber tube to free it from the clog.

I'll look around for a site with a photo.  Best bet would be to go to www.discoweb.org and check out either the TECH section or the bulletin board.  Someone might have a photo.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
