Land Rover Repair: Rangerover 1997 2.5 Diesel Auto, diesel auto, horrible noise

When ignision is turned on dash display shows transfere neutral.When placed into drive or reverse car maked no attempt to move.When you move lever back up to park makes a horrible noise.Only had car a week and have no handbooks , is there a switch to reengage transfere box or could this be a electrical problem.Hope you can help .

It sounds like the transfer case is stuck in neitral or there's an internal failure.  The transfer case is electrically shifted.  When you shift to neutral and then move the lever left or right that selects the high or low ranges.

Try shifting, but if it's the same you have a failure in there somewhere
