Land Rover Repair: 1999 Land Rover Discovery Series II, land rover discovery, discovery series ii

Question
I am looking at purchasing a 99 Land Rover Discovery II that has a slipped cylinder sleeve.  I realize that there is no repair that can be made to correct this (other than a new block).  I have heard that the series I engines, either don't have sleeves or that they just don't slip ever.  My question is, can a series I engine block be mated with all of the manifolds and accessories of a series II engine?  If not, how involving would it be to convert it to work?  Third question is, what would be a fair price to pay for a Disco II that needs this degree of work (he is asking $1800, but that seems a little steep to me considering the work that would be involved to get it back on the road)?

Answer
Any year Rover can have liner failure.  A series I engine won't fit without a lot of rework, so that's probably not a good option.  I can't tell you what you should pay for the vehicle, but I can say a proper repair with a new short block will cost $11-14,000
