Chevrolet Repair: 79 Corvette, vacuum advance, vacuum hose

Question
I have a 79 Corvette L-48 4- speed. I want to race it at the local drag strip. The car pulls hardest in 4th gear, and I was told their is a timing delay in lower gears for emisions. How can I disconnect this for strip use. The car is mostly stock. Thanks Bob

Answer
Hi Bob, Not sure if that is true or not. If there is it is in the vacuum hose going to the vacuum advance. Locate the hose and if it doesn't go from the carb to the dist without going through a switch, run a new hose. I would also set the engine timing above spec by 4 to 6 deg. Be sure that the mechanical advance in the dist is working and not froze up.

Hope this helps
