Land Rover Repair: 2002 freelander / smog, land rover dealer, smog test

Question
QUESTION: vehicle failed somg. caused by unable to communicate with obdII although shop scanner could communicate.

ANSWER: If the smog test scanner can't connect to the obd ii but the shop scanner can, there is probably a problem with the smog check machine, not the Rover.

I've seen that more than once.  Both testers use the same port on a Freelander

QUESTION: taken veh to 6-7 test centers. redondo beach landrover smog machine unable to communicate. I was given  codes p0171, 174, 300,301,303,305,1319,1471,1472. check engine light not on. could any of this codes cause the lack of communication. pasadena landrover said nothing wrong with veh.

Answer
Look, I don't mean to sound rude, but they can't have it both ways.

If they can't communicate, they can't give you codes because they cannot communicate!

So if they give you codes, where do they come from?

If the Land Rover dealer says there are no codes, and there is no check engine light . . . I don't know what to say.  You tell me the dealer can communicate with the car, and the smog people can't.  One of them must be wrong, or the smog people have equipment problems.

Something is not right here.
