Land Rover Repair: 96 Range Rover, tensioner pulley, optima batteries

1996 4.0 Engine was running weak continued driving than engine just stopped on me no leaks no overheating lights come on gearbox displays on indicator after motor stopped what can i do to get it to turn over a couple mechanics said i need a motor i asked a range rover mechanic he said the battery maybe weak u need a new battery if so what is the proper replacement battery for the truck because i replaced mabe 2months ago

Hi Byron,

have your Rangie diagnosed by a independent LR shop with the right testing equipment.  

Sure, if the battery is weak you could have some trouble running the vehicle but your replaced battery should have lasted longer than 2 months.  Could be your alternator is not charging the battery properly OR the serpentine belt is not installed properly. Could also be a problem with the tensioner pulley not applying enough pressure on the serpentine belt, thus the belt slips and the alternator does not charge the battery correctly.
