Land Rover Repair: land rover discovery II performance problem, land rover discovery, obdii scanner

Question
Hi Dennis , I own a 2000 land rover discovery II SD model . today i was driving at a rate of speed of 25 mph and decelerating when the vehicle began sluggish and the check engine light appeared and began to flash .At first guess it appeared to be a clogged fuel injector. i must add i live in Chicago and the weather today was 15 degrees.Iam told i can visit Advanced Auto Parts for an OD II reading for necessary codes and possibly have a reference point to this problem ? I honestly can't afford to take it into a shop as $ is too tight to mention at this time ! Any advice would be most appreciated ! Thank You !

Answer
Hi John,

A standard OBDII scanner will read most engine problem codes, and will give you a point to start looking.

This happened to my wifes Disco last winter, it ended up being a bad spark-plug wire (code was misfire cylinder 6), so it was relatively inexpensive to fix.
