Land Rover Repair: 2004 Range Rover Electrical Problem, range rover hse, obd ii scanner

Question
Hello Expert,

Hope you can lend some insight to a problem I have experienced with my 2004 Range Rover HSE (~60K Miles).

I tried to start the vehicle one day and it was completely dead.  The "Land Rover" logo on the navigation would not even turn on.  We had bought a new battery and had it installed by a TRUSTED mechanic about a month prior to this incident.  Everything worked fine after this for about a month until we experienced the same problem last week.  We were able to jump the vehicle and the battery took a charge but was not sustained. There has never been an electrical problem like this since we bought it two years ago.
We took the car back to the mechanic that installed the battery and he has ruled out the battery, alternator, and anything else "obvious".

Have you ever heard of anything like this before or would be able to lend some insight to this problem before we HAVE to take it in to the dealer?

Gratefully,
      Adam S.

Answer
I am sorry to say there is a difference between a TRUSTED mechanic and one who is PROPERLY TRAINED AND EQUIPPED WITH ALL NECESSARY DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS.

The fact is, you can't tell if the systems you checked are in proper working order without a factory level scan tool to talk to those computers.  A generic OBD II scanner won't give the answers you need.  Your Rover has an extremely complex electrical system with several supervisory computers.  The alternator in that car is actually water cooled, it's so big.

Perhaps you can find an independent who has proper tooling and training in your area - I don't know.
