Land Rover Repair: discovery power steering, power steering, hoses

I founda used discovery in my price range, but the owner says it has a minor issue (power steering leak) I don't know anything about this and don't know a mechanic to check it out for me. If the pump needs replacig what am I looking at? Should I pass on this one?

The pump is probably $400.  Hoses are $150.  A gear is about $500.  Any of those will take several hours to change at whatever labor rate prevails where you are.  You could have one of those problems, or all of them.  Being cynical, I'd assume the worst of any used car.  If there was an easy answer, the seller would have taken it rather than disclose a problem.
