Land Rover Repair: 1995 discovery, coolant system, head gasket

Question
Hi, I drove my 1995 discovery with 136000 220 miles today.  the temp gauge bounced from normal to top of range often through out my drive.  A few times it went to the bottom range of HOT.  I had a licensed service rep pull a lot of excess air out of my coolant system and pressure filled it so no air pockets formed yesterday.  any ideas?  is it safe to drive as long as it does not get to HOT range? Thank you

Answer
Hi Jerome,

as long as all the air is out of the system it should be ok, if it continues to bounce around there is something wrong and needs to be corrected quickly.  The Rover engines do not tolerate overheating well, you'll end up needing a head-gasket if it gets too hot.
