Land Rover Repair: air suspension inactive fault, reservoir tank, meassage

Question
Hi Dennis, I have been having problems with the air suspension on my new shape 2002 range rover for a while now.The car drives fine and stays in standard height goes up and down automatically when you start it and when you park it, but won`t go up or down manually or change to motorway driving. A message reads "air suspension inactive" on the dash board. I finally took it to a range rover specialist who used a testbook to diagnoise the fault which read something like "pressure switch static when reservoir tank full" checked with few experts but no-one really knew what that mean`t ( could be the reservoir tank, compressor or pressure switch). Anyway it was reset and all worked fine for a while.Few months later the fault has re-appeared. This time the car was taken to range rover dealers who think it could be the pressure switch and said the compressor seems a bit weak lifting the car up this too could be the cause and should be changed. I took the cheapest option first pressure switch and fault reset. Week later the same meassage "air suspension inactive" This repair seems to be guess work and costly. I don`t use the the switch to lift or lower car anyway but continuos display of the message is irritating. What would you say could be the cause ? I also read in your previous replies that a manufacture recall was made on the early compressors. How could i find out if mine was or is still covered and this 2002 model was also recalled.
I look forward to your help.
many thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Shaz,

Call your nearest dealer with your VIN, they can look up your RR and see if the recall was done and applicable to your RR (I believe it would be).  A pressure switch fault typically means that the air compressor is getting weak, and that is one of the most common faults in the early FFRR's
