Land Rover Repair: Freelander 02 motor replaced, now not starting, auto electrician, reconditioned motor

Question
I have a 2002 Freelander, it overheated and needed to get the heads machined, it has now had a reconditioned motor replaced in it, and isn't starting. it sounds like it is going to fire up but won't. I have been told from auto electrician that it needs an immobilisation code, but i have been told by LR that the immobilisation code is built into the key. Is there anything that you can suggest checking before i spend any more money fixing up this car that has already cost me a fortune on a new motor.

Answer
There is no way to know if the immobilizer is keeping the engine from starting without a T4 or Autologic test system.  While it's true that there is a chip in the key, the system can lose synchronization when things are taken apart.  The only way to know will be to find a qualified shop and check.  It could just as well be some assembly error, too, but as I said there is no way for me to know.
