Land Rover Repair: 2000 land rover discovery, land rover discovery, light flashes

Question
The check engine light flashes and then the engine dies. After an hour it usually starts back up. the engine turns over but doesn't fire.

Answer
Find a shop with a T4 or Autologic system, and have them look at the stored codes and the live data when the trick quits.  That should tell the story.  The answer is not obvious from your description but I think it will become clear with a proper tester
