Land Rover Repair: 2001 Disc II back up lights are always on, airbag systems, coil springs

Question
My 2001's reverse/back up lights are always on.  I've checked all the fuses and replaced the brake pedal sensor.  I had explained to the dealer that I think it's a switch that's bad on the side of the transmission, but they'd never heard of it going bad.  I replaced my airbag systems with coil springs.  I'm wondering if something that they did caused this problem.  Any suggestions?

Answer
It could be the switch on the transmission, that's where the reverse signal comes from (and they do fail, mine did on my '95 RR).

I'm not sure how the wiring is exaclty on the DII, if the transmission selector switch was stuck in R then you wouldn't be able to start the engine or possibly even drive.  The switch is worth trying, it could also be a failed closed relay/transistor in the circuit.
