Land Rover Repair: OBD2 Code, obd2 code, code translation

Question
The check engine light came on about 3 days ago on my 96 Range Rover 4.0SE,  I took it over to the auto shop and got a P1706 code, which read "Transfer Box Line is either open or shorted" ... but when I look for the code translation online it says P1706 means "High speed indicated on car in park" ... do you know what the fix is for this?

Answer
That code means the signal from the engine controller to the transfer case controller is bad.  YOu can download a wiring diagram from www.landrovertechinfo.com and try to troubleshoot it, but I don't know how far you'll get without the LR test system.

I think this is really a specialist job as the first cause is a transfer case controller, which they can substitute from stock but you'd have to purchase one for the experiment.
