Land Rover Repair: ODB II question, obdii connector, odb ii

Question
Hello, I have a 96 Disco and the garage I tool it to cant seem to get their reader(s) to communicate with the ODB on the rover. They thought that there may be a blown fuse.

Questions:

1) Do ODB's go bad?
2) Where would the fuze be?
3) Would a bad or disabled ODB effect the overall operation of the engine as the engine is not running right.

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Charles,

yes, OBDII connectors on LR's have failed, however, it's rare.

On OBDII connectors, pin 16 is the carrier voltage.  The wire colour is Red/White, and the wire runs to Satellite Fuse box B2, withe the fuse "F3".  The battery voltage is carried constantly.

Its possible that there may be pin damage OR that a short exists and you've lost the constant voltage.

No, a faulty OBDII connector should not interfere with the normal operation of your Disco.  Unless there are other components affected, you should be able to drive normally.

I read somewhere that you may be able to by-pass the battery voltage to the connector but I don't have that info so I'm not so sure.

Best of luck,
