Dear John, I have a 1998 3.9V8 (not the FXi)which runs well but the engine runs unevenly and cuts out when I come to a halt. It happens once the engine is at normal temperature. All of the usual culprits have been looked at (filters, distributor etc) and there has been little change. Any ideas?? Many thanks.

Since you have replaced the common tune up parts, the next step for me would be to connect the LR T4 test system and drive the truck while watching the engine overview screen.  The T4 is great for this work because it highlights out-of-range values in grey, and it tells us where to look in situations like this.  So I suggest you find a shop with the proper tools and have at it.  The live data should tell the story.
