Land Rover Repair: Viscous Fan, range rover classic, viscous coupling

Question
I have a Range Rover Classic 3.9 1991 model it is an Auto,
My question relates to the Viscous Fan unit which comes on when the engine gets hot, however I have read that it only engages about 10% of the time, I live in the UK and it is cold most of the time from now until March or April, could I remove my viscous fan all together and not replace it with an electric fan, I drive mostly on the Motor Way and country roads, I do little Town Driving so am mostly on the move.
Could you give me advice please.
Thanks

Answer
You can remove your fan and add an electric fan, but you do need a fan, whether with or without a viscous coupling.  Even if it is cold, if there is nothing to push the air across the radiator, the car will overheat.  Any time you are at a standstill, it will cook.  The viscous is always engaged, just not fully.
